THE SQUIB can exclusively report that the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Restitution for SARS-Related Victims and Other Related Matters has amended its Rules of Proceedings.
It will be recalled that the Panel had its tenure extended by 3 months after the expiration of additional three months granted the Panel by the Lagos State Government. The extension followed ceaseless agitation by the Radical Agenda Movement in the Nigerian Bar Association (RAMINBA) , the organisation of radical lawyers with Adesina Ogunlana and Ayo Ademiluyi as Chairman and Secretary respectively , who are representing the #EndSARS protesters as Counsel before the Panel.
The SQUIB gathered that Amended Rules are so amended sin order to fast track hearings to increase the chances of hearing and concluding all pending petitions given the limited time for the conclusion of the assignment of the Panel.
It was also gathered further that all pending petitions (that are yet to be opened) are to be front-loaded by the petitioners forthwith and all petitions must be converted to a duly sworn Affidavit.
THE SQUIB also obtained further that only petitions that have complied with the requirements of the rules as amended will be listed (assigned hearing date).
Petitions in compliance will be assigned dates for hearing on a first come, first serve basis.
It should be noted that earlier assigned petition numbers are inapplicable going forward.
The supplementary rules can be obtained from the secretariat of the Panel at the Lagos Court Of Arbitration, Lekki Lagos.
The Rules take effect from the 2nd Day of August 2021
